Maria Terezia Artnerova

Maria was born in the German aristocratic family of the Evangelical faith on the 19th of April in 1772 in Sintava. She was a daughter of general Juraj Leopold von Artner. She became a famous poet. She published under the pseudonym Theone. She is an author of the oldest known poem about beauty of the Sulov Rocks. The poem was written in German language in 1803. The title of the poem is The Poem about the Sulov Rocks. The poem was published in 1806. The poem shows that the author was significantly impressed by the monumentality of the rocks. She describes the rocks as uniqueness of Europe. They evoke strong patriotic feelings in her. Jan Krizan pointed to this poem in the history of the Evangelic church of the Augsburg Confession and congregation in Sulov. The life and work of the poet is presented in a book called Maria Terezia Artnerova – Theone. This book has been compiled by Anna Jonasova and published by the Civic Association Galanta literatna in 2012. Maria Terezia Artnerova died on the 25th of November in 1829 in Zagreb.
