Marta Balasova

Marta Balasova was born on the 26th of November in 1905 in Krive pri Valasskom Mezirici, Moravia. She became a teacher. She started to work at the Catholic school in Sulov on the 13th of February in 1927. She had been writing a school chronicle since 1930, and a local chronicle since 1933. She had an artistic talent. She painted the rare flowers (growing in the Sulov Rocks) and the image of the Catholic school in the school chronicle. Emanuel – Marta’s brother (1914-1966), also depicted the school from the southwestern side on the 29th of March in 1933, in the chronicle. Karol Balas (1911-2003), who was also Marta’s brother, is an author of the photograph of the center of Sulov in 1929. Lawyer, artist and publicist Miloslav Balas (1907-1983) also visited his sister several times in Sulov, and always on foot. Marta Balasova had to leave Slovakia in 1939. She worked as a teacher in several places. She was dismissed from the teaching service for religious reasons in 1953. She died on the 7th of December in 1967.
