Birds

There are more than 90 various bird species in the Sulov Rocks. More than 80 species also nest in this area. The European honey buzzard (Pernis apivorus) is a remarkable forest nester. The lond-eared owl (Asio otus) usually nests in pine forests. A nature resounds with passerine’s melodic voices in the spring. It is possible to hear the European robin (Erithacus rubecula), the common chaffinch (fringilla coelebes) and the Eurasian nuthatch (Sitta europea). It is accompanied by rythnic drumming of the black woodpecker (Dryocopus martius). The forest concert is sometimes interrupted by warning cries of the Eurasian jay (Garrulus glandarius). The European stonechat (Saxicola torquata) searches for the highest spots in the meadow, so its singing can be heard from the distance. On the contrary, the hazel grouse (Tetrastes bonasia) behaves quietly and inconspicuously, so its offspring stay save.
